In memorial of MH17

Malaysia Airlines-flight MH17 was a frequent service from Amsterdam (Schiphol) to Kuala Lumpur. On Juli 17th 2014 a Boeing 777-200ER from Malaysia Airlines with flightnumber MH17 has crashed down in eastern Ukraine. 196 from the 298 passengers had a Dutch nationality. No one survived.

Today, November 10th, is the day that we all memorialize the victims from MH17 here in Amsterdam. Over 1600 surviving relatives are meeting up today in te RAI (event, conerence and exibition centre in Amsterdam) for the memorial. King Alexander and Queen Máxima will also be there. As well as Princess Beatrix, Princess Mariet, Pieter van Vollenhoven, members of the Cabinet and Parliament, former minister Frans Timmermans and other people who are involved. The national memorial will start at 1pm and will be broadcasted on radio and television. Surviving relatives will have a chance to speak during the service. Prime Minister Mark Rutte will be speaking as well.

This memorial came into being in close consulation with te surviving relatives.  The theme is security and connection. There will be hanging flags at half-mast on gouvernment buildings across te country.
