Van Gogh "sterrennacht" turned into cycling path
A luminous cycling path is opened by the Mayor of Eindhoven Rob van Gijzel and artist Daan Roosegaarde. Princess Laurentien (wife of Prince Constantijn, third son of former Queen Beatrix) was also present at the opening. The pattern of the luminous path is based on the painting “Sterrennacht” (“Starry Night”) by Vincent van Gogh. The opening of the path is the kickoff of a major international Van Gogh memorial. 2015 is the 125th year of death of Van Gogh. The 600-meter-long cycling path is placed in-between Eindhoven and Nuenen, near the spot where the painter lived. It also connects the Collse and Opwettense Watermill, which are both painted by Van Gogh. Artist Daan Roosegaarde has used thousands of luminous stones to create this path. These stones are “glow-in-the-dark”. They light up when it gets dark. This will cause the cyclists to feel like they’re cycling through a painting.
