The Last Words

On the last day we interviewed the students from Norway and from the Netherlands. We asked questions about the whole week.

First we interviewed Vilde Marie Handeland and Sol Marie Ronæs about their week in the Netherlands.

What was it that you enjoyed the most about this week?
- The thing we enjoyed the most was getting to know everyone.

What did you think of the city Eindhoven and the school?

- It was a cool city and we liked it because it was a total different city than in Moss, with cafes around almost every corner.

If you can change anything about the programm of the week, what would you change?

- If we could change anything we would like more spare time and more time in Amsterdam, because it is a really big city and we wanted to explore all of it. It would be better for the programm to stay a bit longer in the Netherlands.

Do you want to come back to the Netherlands?

- Yeah, we really want to go to the Netherlands again and see everyone again.

Vilde even said that she want to move to Holland and live on a houseboat.

Then we interviewed Frida Jøraholmen Andresen and Frida Trandem Holtan about their week.

What was it that you enjoyed the most about this week?
- The thing we enjoyed the most was the trip to Amsterdam and getting to know everyone.

What did you think of the city Eindhoven and the school?

- It is a cool school and the city is nice.

Frida Jøraholmen Andresen also said that she liked the main hall of the school and all the parks in the city.

Frida Trandem Holtan said that Eindhoven had a lot to see and many more churches than in Moss.

If you can change anything about the programm of the week, what would you change?

- We would like to have more time in Amsterdam to walk around and no juggling.

Do you want to come back to the Netherlands?

- We definitely want to back and see more of the Netherlands.

And the last exchange student we interviewd was Henrik Aas Granviken.

What was it that you enjoyed the most about this week?
- I really liked Amsterdam and meeting new people and I liked eating "haring", an herring.

What did you think of the city Eindhoven and the school?

- The city was nice and the school was different than what I'm used to.

If you can change anything about the programm of the week, what would you change?

- I would have liked to have more free time.

Do you want to come back to the Netherlands?

- Yes I do, and I really want to see everyone again.

After these interviews we interviewed the students from the Netherlands about their week.

First we interviewed Renske van Genderen about her week.

What was it that you enjoyed the most about this week?
- I enjoyed the moments you had a conversation with your exchange student the most. It was fun to know what the thoughts of the Norwegians was about certain things, and in what way it differs from the way Dutchmen look at those things. The Norwegians were very open and easy going, so it was fun to hang out with them.

If you can change anything about the programm of the week, what would you change?

- It would be nice to change the busy schedule into a little less busy programm. Also shorten the schedule of the day we went to Amsterdam, because it was a long day of walking.

After hearing all their stories, are you now excited to go to Moss?

- I'm really excited to go to there, because I've never been to Norway before and I really want to try waffles with sausage. I'm also curious about the people, the food and the surroundings.

The second person we interviewed was Judith Geuvers.

What was it that you enjoyed the most about this week?
- Going to Amsterdam, and hanging out with the students from Norway and the Netherlands.

If you can change anything about the programm of the week, what would you change?

- The city walk on the last day. Because they already explored the whole city, and now they needed to do it again.

After hearing all their stories, are you now excited to go to Moss?

- Yes, I really want to go because I'm curious about what it is like there.

Then we interviewed Jelte Knossen.

What was it that you enjoyed the most about this week?
- To hang out with the Norwegian students and to show them the surroundings. Also talking about the differences between the Netherlands and Norway was really fun.

If you can change anything about the programm of the week, what would you change?

- It would be nice to have more free time during the activities and trips.

After hearing all their stories, are you now excited to go to Moss?

- Yes. I'm very excited to know how a regular day in Norway goes. It would be fun if we will be able to go skiing. I think it's also nice that during the week we are going to Moss, there will be only one nationality visiting the school. In our school we had an international week where students from different countries came to visit us. During certain activities such as the pubquiz it was very busy, because there were too much people.

At last we interviewed Nick de Boer.

What was it that you enjoyed the most about this week?
- To get to know some of the exchange students. Hanging out with the students was very cozy.

If you can change anything about the programm of the week, what would you change?

- A little bit more structure in the programm. A little bit less time during the activities so you are able to have more free time as a group.

After hearing all their stories, are you now excited to go to Moss?

- Very excited. I'm interested in how Moss, the landscape and an ordinary day in Norway look like. I would also like to see their cities.

Way back home

We asked one of the Norwegian students a few questions. He said  that he really liked it here. He made some new friends and he would like to come back to the Netherlands. He liked the Rijksmuseum the most. The bus trip was really boring and it took them two and a half hours. The flight home was really good, they had no turbulence. He is happy to be home, to see his family and friends again, but he is also sad because he had a really good time here. He said that he is looking forward to see the Dutch students coming to Norway.

The dutch museums

Small on land but big on culture, the Netherlands are filled to the brim with a rich blend of visual and performing arts steeped in history. Home to almost 1,000 museums, the most famous of which are the Rijksmuseum and the Vincent van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, and Boijmans van Beuningen and the Kunsthal in Rotterdam, the Netherlands offer a cultural pick-me-up just waiting for you to discover.

Dutch museums are bulging with homegrown legacies with such a rich history of Golden Age painters and other artists, including Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh, Jan Steen, Frans Hals, M.C. Escher, Karel Appel and Piet Mondriaan. Even the small Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague, which is known for, among others, the famous ‘Vermeer’ and ‘Rembrandt by Himself’ exhibitions, has made a name for itself.

Show of the year

Victoria’s Secret, who doesn’t know the brand. It has the most beautiful lingerie and swimwear. The models are perfect, that’s the reason they are called angels. One of the most famous angels is our own Doutzen Kroes.

Every year there is held a fashion show. This year the show airs on December 9th, and it is held in London, the capital city of Great- Britain. Doutzen is not the only model from the Netherlands that walks the show this year, there are four other dutchies that have the honour to walk the show too. These models are: Bregje Heinen, Imaan Hammam, Romee strijd and Maud Welzen. Every year VS has a special bra which is especially made for them: the fantasy bra. This year they have done something different because there are two, both worth 2 million dollars. The models who are going to show these are Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio.

I think it’s the most known fashion show all over the world and it’s the thing most girls en boys look forward to. Girls love the show because they want to be like the models, and boys love it because they want a girl like them. Some people don’t like Victoria’s secret, they think it stimulates eating disorders among young girls. The models are thin and have perfect flat stomachs. Girls can feel very insecure if they compare themselves to these models. But I think that that isn’t the case. Of course, the models are thin and look perfect, but that isn’t by eating nothing. On social media promotes VS their models well, you can watch little clips about how they work out. The viewer must know that they don’t starve themselves and that they are actually very fit. The big fuss that is made about girls get anorexic by seeing the models doesn’t make sense. I think girls only get more motivated by seeing their bodies, and to be fair, with all the overweight in the world, that’s a good thing.

Establishment asylum center Eindhoven allowed

The decision to establish a refugee center in a former nursing home in Eindhoven, was careless and hasty, but the need for care is so big, that refugees can come.

The judge in Eindhoven has ruled wednesday in a lawsuit of some local residents, against the municipality.

The arrival of seven hundred asylum seekers was announced in September. Very soon they are expected in Eindhoven. The local residents are against the arrival of the refugees, because they are afraid of trouble.

The judge doesn’t understand why the church felt it necessary to decide on a request from the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA), without consultation for example the police officer and the neighborhood association.

''Even though such consultation may not be mandatory, from the viewpoint of good preparation it had been in place, '' said the statement.

''We are satisfied that we as can catch refugees for two years as planned,'' said a statement. The local residents are disappointed with the ruling.

The building where the asylum center is going to be, had been seeting on fire last month. The damage was limited but the recovery took some time. The perpetrator hasn’t been found yet.

Cooking

Kapsalon

If you like fries, kebab, cheese and a salad, just put it all together! A Dutch man, Nathaniël Gomes, frequently went to the kebab shop and always ordered these things together. He is a hairdresser so after a while they started to call his meal ‘kapsalon’, this means hair salon. It’s a weird name, for a slightly strange but very tasty meal.

You can make kapsalon yourself, it’s very easy. You’ll need an aluminium tray or something similar, and you can start building this dish. First you’ll need to fry the (French) fries and put them on the bottom of the tray. After that you put the kebab on top of the fries, and a layer of (Goudse) cheese. Now put it under the grill until the cheese has melted. If you like, put some garlic sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots or whatever you like on top. And done! Why don’t you just go to a local kebab shop and ask for this, maybe it will become as famous in Norway as in The Netherlands.
